connect¶
Runs in the client Sends nothing to the robot
Connect to the robot and check its command protocol version. The client opens a connection to the robot software, waiting up to 5 s, then waits for the status the robot sends every new client: up to 2 s, after which it asks the robot for it, up to 5 s more. It compares the robot's command protocol version with its own. A different version raises VersionMismatch and the client disconnects again; a robot that reports none gives a VersionWarning (a Python warning) and the connection goes ahead. Afterwards the attributes runtime_version (the robot software's version) and protocols (its protocol versions: commands, rti and telemetry) hold what the robot reported, or None.
Every message the client sends carries its name, which the robot's activity log shows: the name given to RobotClient(), or "
